If you’ve lost your job because of coronavirus

  1. See if you are eligible. You need to meet eligibility requirements to receive unemployment benefits. Eligibility varies depending on the state you live in and usually requires you to be employed for 3 - 6 months. Check your state’s Department of Labor site.
  2. File paperwork. Have your Social Security number and address. For work history, use our Work Search Activity Log to get employer information, phone number and work history for the application. The government will also need the date of termination and 2-3 pay stubs.
  3. Start collecting benefits. Have your bank account information handy so you can receive unemployment benefits directly deposited into your checking or savings account. This will speed up the process. If you don't have a bank account, you will receive benefits through the mail.
